Deepika Padukone is a name synonymous with success in Bollywood today. But reaching the top of her game, for this Bengaluru lass, was not an easy task. Deepika is the daughter of badminton legend Prakash Padukone and for her to make the shift from sports to acting was a big move.
In a new, now-viral advertisement for a toothpaste brand, Deepika and her mother Ujjala Padukone take people back to the day when the Padukones' older daughter decided to go to Mumbai and become an actor.
"Putting her into badminton came very naturally because my husband is a national champion. She worked very hard to reach the state level. One morning she woke up and said I want to move to Bombay and I want to become an actor... so I said, Deepika I think you're dreaming. Go back to sleep," says Ujjala in the ad.
As Deepika narrates how she was confident about what she had to do, Ujjala recounts the 'distinct words' that her daughter had told her back then.
"Ma, you just wait and see, one day I'll make you all proud," says Ujjala, as a blushing Deepika replies, "Can't believe I said that."
In the ad, Deepika and Ujjala go on to speak about her decision to move to Mumbai to pursue acting.
