HIGHLIGHTS

  • Australia chased down the target (106) with 29 deliveries to spare
  • Ashleigh Gardner was the player of the match
  • Danielle Wyatt was the highest scorer for England
Australia women lifted their fourth Women's World T20 trophy after comprehensively defeating England at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. Australia were undoubtedly the favourites and the more superior team on the day as well as they trounced England by eight wickets to win the title in the Caribbean Islands.
Since the start of the tournament in 2009, Australia have won the title four times and are the most successful team in Women's World T20. England had won the inaugural edition at home but Australia went on to win the next three -- 2010 (West Indies), 2012 (Sri Lanka) and 2014 (Bangladesh). West Indies had won their maiden Women's World T20 in India in 2016 but Australia returned to the West Indies to win their crown back.
Ashleigh Gardner was the star for Australia with both the bat and the ball as she finished with figures of 3/22 in the first innings and returned with the bat to smack 33 off 26 deliveries to well and truly put Australia on their way to a fourth title.
While Gardner was well supported with the ball by Megan Schutt and Georgia Wareham, she had Alyssa Healy do her job up top with the bat and then she was well supported by captain Megan Lanning in the middle to finish the game.
